Stacy Cain ... DTM!

It's been a while since Llano Estacado had a newly minted Distinguished Toastmaster in the club.  At least it HAD been a while.  Yesterday Stacy Cain, DTM, was presented her DTM plaque by club president Amber Marsh.

Stacy's DTM was six years in the making. It included almost 50 speeches, a term as both a club and district officer, mentoring a new member, and mentoring a new club (Eloquent Raiders here in Lubbock).

Congratulations Stacy!

Contests & an Engagement

Cliff interviews Amber & Chase.
Club president Amber Marsh and our newest member Chase Barnhill stepped up and will be representing Llano Estacado Toastmasters in the Area 61 Humorous Speech contest on September 14th at 9am in the Texas Tech School of Law Lanier Auditorium.

Amber told the story of how divine intervention helped her find her husband and Chase recounted his adventures in the military when a special guest visited his base.  To find out more, you'll just have to show up for the contest!

Taryn describes Cliff's proposal while he listens.
At the end of the meeting, Taryn Rainwater announced that Cliff Colvin had proposed to her.  The couple has been dating for nearly a year and joined Toastmasters as something to do together.  By the time the two had finished describing the proposal, it might have qualified for a humorous speech contest entry, too.

Congratulations Amber & Chase!

And congratulations Taryn & Cliff!

Lots of Acronyms Today

As part of her theme for the day, Toastmaster Stacy Cain discussed acronyms and initialism. Coincidentally, both of these really came to light today as we had a visit from an AG and we presented a member with a CC badge.

Area Governor Ernee Kozyreff attended Llano Estacado Toastmasters club today for the first of two official visits and spoke about what it means to be a Distinguished Club.  Ernee is the governor of Area 61 and Llano Estacado is in Area 61 along with three other clubs in Lubbock.  The other five clubs in Lubbock belong to Area 62.
Ernee talks about being distinguished.

Dustin Wells also came back after an extended break this summer while he's been working and was presented with his Competent Communicator badge by Stacy, his mom, and Amber Marsh, our club president.

Today Darya gave her first speech at Llano Estacado Toastmasters.  We got a sneak peek at some future speeches as she told us about growing up in Russia, moving to the United States, to Texas, and eventually to Lubbock.

Congratulations Darya!

The Newest CCs In Llano Estacado

Congratulations to Amber Marsh & Michelle Leatherwood for achieving their Competent Communicator awards.   Amber received her award on February 4, 2013, and Michelle received hers on May 9, 2013.  At Llano it's a tradition that the club buys each member a name badge when they achieve their first CC.  At our meeting yesterday, club treasurer Stacy presented Amber & Michelle with their badges.

Congratulations Amber & Michelle!  We're proud of you!

Happiness in the Rearview Mirror

Our mentor and club matriarch, Paula Wilkinson is retiring and hitting the road.  Before she and Max take off on their Gypsy Turtle adventure (follow their wild ride through their blog: www.thegypsyturtle.blogspot.com), we got one last chance to say goodbye and pick on her just a little.

We love you Paula and we'll miss you!  Hopefully you'll find Lubbock in your front windshield from time to time and you'll drop by to say hi!

Area Governor Visit

Area Governor Jef Conn visited yesterday to tell us about membership building, training, contests, and conferences.  He also brought some words of wisdom from Homer:
"A guest never forgets the host who treated him kindly."
